In 1932, twenty-five charter boat and commercial fishermen formed what was known as the Boatmen's Association. The primary mission of the group was to protect their fishing waters, sponsor the Texas Tarpon Rodeo, and support community activities.

Over the years, the old Boatmen's Association has undergone changes in both name and mission.

Now named Port Aransas Boatmen, Inc., the organization plays a vital role in the community.
